2025 was a year marked by a further drastic degradation of the rights of asylum seekers. As we move into 2026, the EU Migration and Asylum Pact is set to be implemented in Greece and across Europe. Yet even before its formal rollout across Europe, we have already witnessed sweeping changes at the national level. This comes at a time when people living in the Samos CCAC continue to face dire conditions. In this challenging context, I have Rights has remained committed to providing critical, individual legal support to people on the move.
In 2025, our casework team:
- Supported 227 new clients, including tailored one-on-one preparation for 188 asylum interviews, representing people from 23 different countries.
- Worked on 8 family reunification cases.
- Responded to more than 156,000 messages on our hotline, offering essential guidance and reassurance.
- Our lawyer accompanied 7 clients to interviews and filed 3 appeals.
- Delivered 23 legal workshops and group advice sessions.
Alongside this direct support, our advocacy and strategic litigation teams remained focused on challenging abuses and pushing for systemic change:
- We engaged in advocacy and litigation efforts to hold responsible actors accountable for human rights violations, shedding light on the urgent issues faced by people on the move.
- We continued to raise awareness of the alarming situation on Samos, working in collaboration with organisations in Greece and beyond to advocate for meaningful structural reform.
Looking ahead, 2026 and the implementation of the new Pact are set to dramatically reshape migration policy in Europe. Throughout the past year, we have continued to advocate for systemic change while ensuring that those most affected receive vital legal information and assistance. We thank you for making this work possible through your support, and we look forward to standing with you in the year ahead.
